Well, yes. Although in my current site we have Ops, I was able to set up
unattended backups for a number of production servers. You just require
tight, accurate scripting. I think there are a number of examples in
www.iiug.org.
Funnily enough, when I arrived at that last night they'd never had an
Informix DBA, and had been paying Informix to do the job. Informix had set
up an onarchive config (which caused continual problems and which I
scrapped) for the following reasons:
1. onarchive is designed to run unattended
2. ontape -> disk is not supported.
Both bad reasons in my book!
