RE: Recover Logical Logs (the hard way)
Posted in 1998
Thank you for your reply, but I may have left out some information.
We don't have a backup of the logical logs since Friday. We have 70 or
so logical logs that get backed up periodically as they begin to fill.
Since they were backed up before the Friday backup, and we only had one
day of activity (Monday), there was no reason to backup the logs before
I left last night (at least no reason that I could have foreseen). It
is not possible (according to Informix tech support) to restore from the
disk drive, you can only restore from a log backup. Somehow I must
backup the logs to tape before I can use them to roll forward. The
scheme at this time is to re-install, and trick the engine into thinking
it's logs are those that are out there on the drive. Then do an ontape
backup.

Assuming your logical log backup is in place and covers the
period
from your last Friday's backup, the restore process should
normally
prompt you to apply the logical logs. Also, that process should
prompt you to salvage logical logs that are still on your
logical
log drive. If they span that period you can have two sets of
the log data to apply to last Friday's backup. I'm assuming
you use ontape.
Good luck
