The archive will reference the chunks by name. In order to get this to work he'll need to rm the links to the original chunks and allocate them to the new, cooked chunks of the same sizes as the originals. He can't operate the original instance simultaneously so he'll have to close it down for the duration. I can't think of any way to get separate instances running successfully on one box using the same names for chunks. Once he has an export of the database he can import it to a separate instance as you describe under the same name. Ian
