RE: Pool Names ISMData & ISMLogs Not Created

few years back, when i was backing up the database using ISM, i used to do the following, hope it helps 1. make sure there are no nsr processes running 2. initialize the ism using $INFORMIXDIR/bin/ism_startup -init 3. add informix as the admin user, $INFORMIXDIR/bin/ism_add -admin informix 4. remove the default devices, ism_rm -device <device_name>, you can get the list of devices by issuing ism_show -devices | awk '{print $7}' 5. create the backup directories, and chmod 777 on these directories 6. add the device, ism_add -device <device_name> -type file 7. then, run the ism_op command, and see if you get the error issue ism_watch command to verify the devices/pools. at times, i had to remove /nsr directory before initialization (i.e. before step # 2). -----Original Message----- From: owner-informix-list@iiug.org [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.org]On Behalf Of Brett Sheeran Sent: Wednesday, August 18, 2004 12:06 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Pool Names ISMData & ISMLogs Not Created Hi, I am trying to set up ISM on Informix 9.3 and I believe the pool names ISMData and ISMLogs are not being created when I run ism_startup -init. Could anyone tell me how to fix this problem? The steps I followed to setup ISM are as follows: Initialise ISM: ism_startup -init Add a file backup device: ism_add -device /usr/informix/restore/ISM_ARC -type file Label that device: ism_op -label /usr/informix/restore/ISM_ARC -volume 1 -pool ISMData At which point I get the following error: nsrmm: Invalid pool name `ISMData'. If I look at the list of labels in Informix's GUI Storage Manager I see the following: Default Default Clone Full NonFull Offsite Neither "ISMData" or "ISMLogs" appear in that list As you would expect, the onconfig Informix Storage Manager variables are: ISM_DATA_POOL ISMData ISM_LOG_POOL ISMLogs Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Regards Brett Sheeran sending to informix-list
