Client SDK Download
Posted in 2021
Tom Girsch complained that the Informix Client SDK download is hard to find and forces customers through a prospect survey. Art Kagel pointed to the free Developer Edition download and said he would raise it with the IIUG board and IBM. Others posted links and varying experiences; David Williams said Passport Advantage covers licensed products and CSDK is separate. Tom still wanted one download place. Unresolved.

Why do IBM and HCL keep hiding the CSDK download? It used to be less of a big deal because it was bundled with the engine. Now it no longer is, and the only stuff available on Passport Advantage is 4.10 and older or the Windows versions of 4.50. When I try to download via the iiug.org link, it gets about two click in before webroot declares that I'm being redirected to a phishing site. I should just be able to get it through PA like everything else, or via FixCentral if that fails. ------------------------------ TOM GIRSCH ------------------------------ #Informix
I had the same issue yesterday. Search for "SDK" ------------------------------ Jeffrey Filippi ------------------------------
Here's the link: Informix - Developer Tools It's billed as a "trial" but there's no expiration to it and the CSDK is free anyway. Just scroll down to the "Client Software Development Kit" box and click on the "Try free edition" link there. ------------------------------ Art S. Kagel, President and Principal Consultant ASK Database Management Corp. www.askdbmgt.com ------------------------------
Art: That's the one that webroot complained about maybe two clicks in. This time it worked, but I still had to play 20 questions as if I'm a prospective customer. I'm an existing customer, and I should be able to easily download the product without jumping through all those hoops!
I agree, but as it stands, that's what we've got. You can understand that they want to opportunity to reach out to anyone downloading free product in the hopes of selling them something that generates revenue. Anyway, I will bring it up with IIUG Board and so with IBM. ------------------------------ Art S. You mean Pisspoor Disadvantage
Folks, I'll make no comments on how difficult it to find something in an IBM website Those URLS work for me CSDK - https://www-01.ibm.com/marketing/iwm/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=ifxdl Innovator C - https://www-01.ibm.com/marketing/iwm/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=swg-ifxnce Developer https://www-01.ibm.com/marketing/iwm/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=ifxids JDBC https://www-01.ibm.com/marketing/iwm/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=ifxjdbc
To be fair it seems to have got better and it is a lot easier to find stuff in there than I remember it being. I share everyone's frustration around finding downloads. I don't have any trouble now I know 14.10 server is on PA only and CSDK is via the trials and demos site but this wasn't communicated to customers very well in the beginning. Don't ask me where the JDBC driver is but I did find it in the past so I think I could again :) Ben. ------------------------------ Benjamin Thompson ------------------------------
The point is, there should be one-stop shopping. Give me ONE PLACE I can go to download ALL of the products to which I am entitled. And don't make me download trial versions of products I'm licensed to use. Don't make me pretend to be a prospect (and answer the same series of prospect questions every time a new version comes out) when I've been a paying customer for decades.
Eric: Can you download directly from those links, or do you have to play 20 Questions?
Tom, less than 20 questions ( just 3 or 4 ) like this So you won't spend 3 hours replying to them, in addition to the 3 hours you (i.e we) have to spend searching for a URL that does not lead to a deadlink ... Those URL had been provided by Milind a few years ago and they kept working fine since then (including now) ------------------------------ [eric] [Vercelletto] [] [Founder] [kandooerp.org] [Pont l'Abbé] [France] [+33 626 52 50 68] Disclaimer: My own opinions are my own opinions and do not reflect on the IIUG, nor any other organization with which I am associated either explicitly, implicitly, or by inference. Eric: The point is that making customers jump through unnecessary hoops – especially ones that treat them like they're not customers – is a good way to lose customers.
I got the point: seems that IBM has been doing whatever what in their power to lose their Informix customers since 2001 and piss them off. They day IBM will realize that customers are also human beings and that talking to them can also contribute to their revenue, we'll make some progress. But I lost hope that this will happen anyday I lost faith! This is a big irritant for me, too. I wonder if IBM is familiar with CRM. As in knowing your customers. I, too, believe we should revert to the good old days, when the CSDK was readily available. IMO, I should be able to get all software to which I am entitled from PA. But, then, that is another ugly thing, in and of itself. DG ------------------------------ David Grove ------------------------------
I am not able to download the Linux Version of CSDK. Only windows version is available under my PA account. I opened the ticket with support, i got response that we are only entitled to download windows version. If we need Linux version, we have to buy it separately. They refereed me to the sales rep and he has the same story. Did any of you have the same issue, were you able to resolve it? ------------------------------ Sanjiv Kumar ------------------------------
Ignore your PA account for CSDK, it is free so you can just download it by clicking on the "Try the Developer Edition" button on the IBM Informix main page (www.informix.com) main page, logging in, and following the prompts. Then just enter "SDK" in the search box and you will see all of the most recent releases of the Informix CSDK. Art ------------------------------ Art S. Kagel, President and Principal Consultant ASK Database Management Corp. www.askdbmgt.com ------------------------------
It is nonetheless a source of ongoing frustration that there's not a one-stop-shopping point for Informix downloads. Not to mention the need to fill out a prospective customer survey every time one needs to download a new version of a product which one has already licensed and to which one is already fully entitled. Hi Tom, I understand the CSDK license terms, that you can use it for free if you entitled for one of the Informix server partnum. If you don't have an Informix Server, you have to pay for. Yes, it is unbelievable that IBM is not able to provide all ports for the CSDK with the server downloads in one place. Art wrote the only one place for the Linux port. Hi Tom, Followed iiug.org link to Informix CSDK Downloads and it worked flawlessly. Please review your antivirus/router as it can be blocking access to IBM informix download pages. ------------------------------ Vicente Salvador Cubedo ------------------------------
That works, but that's not the point. It still takes me to the prospective customer survey nonsense instead of directly to the download page. And it's still not the same place where I go to download the engine or other tools. It should all be in the same place, and once I've established that I'm a paying customer, I should be spared the survey nonsense.
Hi, Google "Informix Client SDK" Second link - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/informix-client-software-development-kit-client-sdk-and-informix-connect-system-requirements "Informix Client Software Development Kit (Client SDK) and Informix Connect System Requirements" Link on that Page "Download Informix Client SDK" https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/download-informix-products Link on that page "IBM Informix Client SDK downloads" "includes recent versions of Informix server, Client SDK 4.50" and ask 3 questions What is your current reason for downloading? Pick 1st option "Educating myself on technology" How will you be involved in the decision making process for your projects? Pick Decision Maker or whatever Which of the following best describes your company? Pick "Looking for software solutions" - who isn't? Takes you straight to a list of downloads. Give me ONE PLACE I can go to download ALL of the products to which I am entitled. There is - passport advantage. Client SDK is seperate since it is free without support. ------------------------------ David Williams ------------------------------

David: I used to be able to download CSDK there, too, without having to answer a prospect survey every time. In some cases they even bundled it with the engine. I no longer can do that. Why is it so difficult or somehow morally/ethically unacceptable to make SDK available for download directly alongside all the other Informix products? It ain't rocket surgery. What's the justification for NOT putting everything in the same spot? Get Outlook for Android
