Problem while Performing a Logical Restore?

Hello All,
I am testing a scenario of logical recovery of HDR-secondary using IDS 11.70
FC7.
I have taken the backup using "ontape" from primary server and restored it on
secondary DB server using "ontape".
Please note that primary is confugred for automatice logs backup using "onbar"
with "Tivoli Storage Manager(TSM)".
At the secondary server, I have completed the physical restore using "ontape
-p" and now secondary needs logical recovery from disk , but, the logical logs
at primary server is not available online (as logs are overwritten at primary
side), however, they are available at the TSM.
Hence, I have manually picked the required logical logs from TSM and tried to
start the logical recovery using "ontape -l", but it is giving me the error or
"bad tape".
In my understanding, one possible reason could be that these logs are
backed-up using "onbar", so they could not be restored using "ontape -l".
So, then I have also tried restoring the logical logs using the command "onbar
-r -l" but it is not doing anything?
At the moment, my secondary sits in the "Fast Recovery (sec)" state. How can i
bring it in the "Read Only (Sec)" state in my scenario?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Any suggest that is it possbile to perform the physical recovery using
"ontape" and then i could be able to perform the logical recovery using
"onbar"?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Khan
Hi Khan,
Short answer, no, you can't use two different backup tools to perform a
restore.
You could add more logical logs to the primary so that you don't overwrite any
during the restore of the secondary.

If you are using TSM, the logs should be available to all machines in
your network.
The only thing you need to do is to copy the ixbar from the primary into
your secondary to be and do "onbar -r -l". No, ontape does not know
anything about logs stored in the storage manager so you cannot use it
in this case.
Now, some storage managers are picky about the SERVERNUM (as the path
for logical logs in TSM uses the SERVERNUM in the primary, so it is
better if your secondary also uses the same SERVERNUM as the primary.
Since you are testing "a scenario of logical recovery of HDR-secondary"
I assume that you do not want to assume the primary is up, but if that
is not the case you could use ifx_clone to instantiate the secondary
directly from the primary and since ifx_clone works in parallel at the
dbspace level and it compresses the data through the network, it should
be faster than ontape.
