An interesting way to pass parameters and return codes is to use the database itself. Build a table and put values in it. The last call the C function makes can be an INSERT INTO, and if you use a shell script, it can insert the return value of the function (assuming it is compiled into a program). You know if the function (or shell script) didn't run correctly if you don't see entries in the table you would expect to be there. Thomas J.
