onbar and IBM primary storage manager

IDS12.10 FC4, RedHat Linux . We have bee using Ontape for backup successfully and happily since the beginning . Because databases are growing larger and larger, I am looking for Onbar now. Just want to confirm a understanding concept, PSM ( Primary Storage Manager) is just a set of utilities and libraries which will be called by ONBAR to complete backup/restore ... missions. PSM is not a residential up running server in background. Is that right ? It seems a standing-by running server according the doc, but I did not see PSM is a residential background running server. Any tips and comments are deeply appreciated ! Thanks Frank --94eb2c076642343c52053658db7c
That is correct. PSM is a set of libraries containing standard xBSA
functions that onbar calls to perform the IO needed to output the archive
and the onpsm utility which is used to manage the storage and archive
history.
