Jack, You need to LOCATE the TEXT variable before using it. According to the 4GL Supplement, the syntax is: LOCATE variable-list IN {MEMORY | FILE [filename]} This tells 4GL where to store a TEXT or BYTE variable. So, if you TEXT data is quite small, use: DEFINE textvar TEXT LOCATE textvar IN MEMORY Paul. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Nailer 5th Floor, Hadrian TC Melbourne Street Telephone: +44 191 222 4353 Newcastle Upon Tyne Email : nailerp@leeds.syntegra.bt.co.uk NE1 2JQ, UK All opinions expressed here are my own and not BT's -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
