raise exception returned error length

After a little digging we discovered that the maximum length of the error text returned by a "raise exception" is 71 characters. While I'm not looking to write the last great novel I've got a problem in that PowerDesigner generates stored procedures with a error text that assumes 255 characters. My question is this: has anyone figured a way around this limitation?

After trapping in exactly that error I wrote an outer exception handler catching the error above. I decided to store the complete error text in an external non buffering table and returned a shorter error text to the caller. The caller then had the possibility to get the long text reading the special error text table. Hth, Chris
