Perhaps you do not have permission to create the sqexplain.out file in your home directory on the server. Often in a client server environment the administrators create valid logins for users on the server but with no password, since they never actually log in but need remote permissions for things like Informix access. It is standard practice in these cases to not give the user a home directory either or to assign a bogus name in /etc/passwd or to give the same home directory to all users with no permissions as added security. Perhaps this is the problem. Art S. Kagel
