Strings in SPL (Stored Procedure Language)...

Is there any way to concatentate strings in SPL? Can't find a way to do it (or I'm just stoooopid). Anyone have a good idea? I tried: LET long_string = shortstr1, shortstr2; this gives an error -661 (Number of variables does not match number of values returned.) I tried: LET long_string = shortstr1 + shortstr2; this is just a plain error.
