Log Tapes and archive restore
Posted in 1996
A question for Informix GURUS. We are moving from one machine to another - Pyramid MIS-12 Server to Nile 150. We are currently running Informix 4.10.XX and will also be running the same on the new platform. Both are On-Line engines. We are need of a way to applly Informix continuous logs from one machine onto another, is there a way to do this without having to do a full restore first? Machine 1 has a database that needs to be available 24 x 7 which we are moving to Machine 2 (Nile 150). The plan is as follows: Archive level 0 on machine 1 and restore it on machine 2. Apply continuous logs from machine 1 to machine 2. We come up on machine 2 and perform continuuous logs on it. So far so good. However, should we encounter any problems on machine 2 we would like to fall back to machine 1. It is extremely important to keep both databases in sync on both machines. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to do this without applying the full restore onto machine 1 first and then the continuous logs from machine 1 back onto machine 1 and then the continuous logs from machine 2 onto machine 1. Am I wrong? This is what INFORMIX is telling us. Since machine 1 will not have changed other than for the continuous logs from machine 2, I figured there ought to be a way to just apply the continuous logs from machine onto machine 1 and bring it back in sync.
