If I understand you correctly, your fetching all rows via the network.
Which means to me, that you do a transfer of 44 MB. Your 2nd query
with only one col shows the effect of less network traffic.
The question is: Is there a multi-user client-server application, which
has to be capable to load 105365 rows in 34 secs? For me, this looks
like a typical server-job, which should reside on the same machine than
the DB-Server.
