HOWTO: Using seipcpip with Informix SE 7 on Linux
Posted in 1998
After Nils said he had it working I decided to invest 5 minutes with strace. The answer is that the host name you put in the seipcpip line must match *exactly* the hostname returned by the uname() system call. Do a "uname -a". The hostname is the second bit in the output - the bit after "Linux". If it is a fully qualified domain name (has dots in it) you must put the fully qualified domain name in the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts seipcpip entry. The informix code matches this hostname against the return from uname in order to ensure that it doesn't try and use a local connection on a machine that isn't really the local machine the sqlhosts was prepared for - I guess :-). Enjoy.
