CENTRAL BANK OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION STANDARDIZES ON INFORMIX MENLO PARK, Calif. (Nov. 1, 1994) -- Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of parallel processing database technology, today announced that the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia) has selected Informix database technology as its standard database for a five-year, multi-million dollar downsizing project, replacing a wide range of proprietary systems. Informix will supply its entire product line of database servers and tools for company-wide information management and logistics control. The Bank of Russia will implement INFORMIX-OnLine and INFORMIX-SE database servers, INFORMIX 4GL and INFORMIX-ESQL development tools, the C-ISAM(R) programming library, as well as INFORMIX-HyperScript(R) Tools and INFORMIX-ViewPoint(TM) and Informix connectivity products. The Bank of Russia has chosen Sun, AT&T GIS and Intel platforms for the UNIX implementation. The contract is one of the largest ever for information technology in the former Soviet Union. "Informix will support both core processing and customer service in the Bank of Russia's new technology infrastructure," said Steve Sommer, vice president of marketing at Informix. "The Bank of Russia joins more than 160 financial services organizations worldwide who have selected Informix as the supplier of choice as they move their mission-critical core business functions to open systems." Westmount Technology's I-CASE Yourdon technology will also be integrated in the system to enable easy adaptation of applications in response to rapid changes in Russia's legislation. Westmount's product will provide full project life cycle support, seamless target integration and generate client/server applicaitons with Informix tools. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has 100,000 employees. 40,000 of them are computer users. The Bank has 78 regional central banks. There are eight development centers for the bank's own applications.
