The only syntatical error I see in the above procedure and trigger is that you
need to define syscall, as in
CREATE PROCEDURE run_cathys_exe ()
DEFINE syscall char(60); LET syscall = "/tmp/runtest.ksh";
SYSTEM syscall;
END PROCEDURE;
This runs fine on Informix 5.03.
