I had relinked the kernel with the recommended values before trying to start informix. However, your message prompted me to review and find that I had skipped several values that did not appear in the kernel parameter list. Digging a bit, I found that two of the parameters are absolute and that idtune could be used to set the remaining ones. After making these changes and relinking the kernel, IDS 7.3 successfully initialized. Thanks for your comment.
