Contributing to the financial injuries was the third quarter loss announcement of $110.7 million or 73 cents per share and an intense audit, which cost the company close to $2 million. "This [the financial audit] was big, it was hard, but we did it the right way," said Finocchio. The future of Informix lies in the series of changes currently underway: real estate in Santa Clara sold for $60 million, a credit line of $75 million from Bank of Boston and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, and operating cost cuts -- from $235 million in the first quarter to $195 million in the third quarter. "Clearly Informix still has a long way to go to return to profitability, but it looks like management is taking the right actions," said Neil Herman, equity analyst at Salomon Brothers.
