I think you'd probably be fine running on a Linux box, just be aware that Linux ports are a bit new, so they don't have all the fancy bits and bobs yet (ER, UDO, AD, etc.). My only concern would be if you were planning to grow mightily, then I would go for a "commercial" Unix. I think your stated environment would be well served by the combination of Linux and a beefy Intel box. The disk requirements would be largely the same, whatever platform you go for, but you should be able to connect 120 users using a single fast CPU and about 256MB RAM. The more RAM, the better, of course! I don't know what the status is of Linux SMP, either. I've dozed off a little bit on the Linux port side, if you post to linux-informix@iiug.org, you'll probably get more practical and specific recommendations.
