Hi, The CSM technology is an API that exists in the client and server. It allows the non-Informix technology to be used as the communication method. You take advantage of the API by building a library module that's loaded on the client and server. The CSM technology will allow you to bypass the ASF layer. Ideally the CSM API is used to plug in non-Informix technology like; authentication, message integrity, message privacy, and data compression for client/server communication. The CSM API is available on; IDS 7.31, XPS 8.30 and IDS.2000. Also you need the ClientSDK 2.2X (I think) There is a CSM for DCE, Kerberos and some light weight DES encryption. But it doesn't stop you from writing a compression or secure socket CSM. If you need more info I suggest you contact your Informix rep. paulwo@informix.com Hector Ornelas Arciga <OEAH701T@sat.gob.mx> wrote in message news:7tj7pn$op2$1@news.xmission.com... > > > > I'm searching information about the Communication Support Modules (CSM). > > I have Informix Dynamic Server 7.3 and HP-UX 10.20. > > > > I found in the Technical Brief (Part 4: > > http://www.informix.com/informix/techbriefs/ids/feat.htm): > > "Communications Support Service (CSS) > > Communications Support Service (CSS) is an Informix internal component > > which provides greater network security through supporting third-party > > security services such as authentication, message integrity, message > > privacy, data compression, etc. CSS accesses plug-in modules called > > Communication Support Modules (CSM) to provide support for third-party > > services such as DCE 1.1 security service via the industry standard API > > called the Generic Security Service API (GSS API). The connectivity layer for all current Informix server (and client) products. Note that CSS/CSM doesn't actually bypass ASF. ASF has hooks to interface to CSS/CSM and you can replace or augment various facets of ASF via CSMs. > >> Ideally the CSM API is used to plug in non-Informix technology like; >>authentication, message integrity, message privacy, and data compression for >>client/server communication. >> >> The CSM API is available on; IDS 7.31, XPS 8.30 and IDS.2000. >> >> Also you need the ClientSDK 2.2X (I think) >> >> There is a CSM for DCE, Kerberos and some light weight DES encryption.
