INFORMIX OFFERS MIGRATION PROGRAM FOR INGRES USERS Unique Software Tool Provides Automatic Conversion of Ingres Applications MENLO PARK, Calif. (Nov. 14, 1994) -- Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:IFMX) the leader in parallel processing database technology, today announced a program to provide seamless migration from Ingres to Informix database products. The Informix program, which becomes effective immediately, enables Ingres users to leverage their existing investment in Ingres-based applications while migrating to Informix's leading-edge database technology. As part of the program, Informix will offer a unique software tool which allows automatic migration of both Ingres data and applications. Informix is the only database vendor that provides this capability. The tool will allow Ingres users to automatically convert Ingres applications to INFORMIX(R)-4GL -- and INFORMIX-NewEra(TM). Informix will also offer a dollar-for-dollar credit on existing Ingres investments. Ingres users will receive a discount on Informix software based on the amount the customer has spent on Ingres software. The program also includes consulting services to support the migration effort. "This is a very attractive program which provides a key benefit over programs offered by other database vendors," said Phil White, chairman and CEO, Informix. "Our program enables Ingres users to preserve their large investment in Ingres-based applications. Converting Ingres data to another RDBMS is trivial. What Ingres users really need is a risk-free, cost-effective approach to migrating their applications. With our software tool, Ingres users can automatically migrate their data and application logic to Informix without relying on an army of expensive consultants. We also enable them to migrate to character, graphical or object-oriented environments with a minimum of disruption." Organizations such as the United Kingdom Royal Air Force, UK-based British Steel Distribution, and the State of Indiana's Department of Environmental Management have already made the strategic decision to migrate from Ingres to Informix. "In order for us to provide more timely solutions to our customers, we must partner with a technology provider that has a long-term commitment to providing leading-edge technology. We are confident that Informix is a long-term player," commented Fred Alvarez, director of information systems, Department of Environmental Management, State of Indiana. "Our applications are a vital asset and we need to exploit technical excellence in our information systems to keep us ahead of the technology curve," commented John Martin, information technology manager, British Steel Distribution. "Informix has proven that it can provide industry-leading technology that will help us remain competitive."
