alarmprogram! how to trigger

Hi,
sorry for such very basic question, but I am feeling desperate as I am unable
to test how can we use alarmprogram. We want to use alarmprogram for routine
monitoring, but it seems that alarmprogram.sh is not triggered so script
written in it does not get executed. Here is the configuration from onconfig:
---------------------------------------------------------------
ALARMPROGRAM /export/informix11-50FC4/etc/alarmprogram.sh
ALRM_ALL_EVENTS 1
STORAGE_FULL_ALARM 60,3
SYSALARMPROGRAM /export/informix11-50FC4/etc/evidence.sh
---------------------------------------------------------------I added a line in alarmprogram.sh to delete a file to see if it works and
answer is no. To trigger it i tried to insert large data, taking logical log
backup using "ontape -a" and interrupted it etc but alarmprogram was not
triggered.
Can you help what is wrong.
regards,
Kamran
How are you testing the ALARMPROGRAM? It always works for me and many of
our clients. To test the logical log archive you have to force the engine
to switch logical logs (onmode -l) at which point the ALARMPROGRAM will fire
can be called with event code 23. To test the storage full alarm you would
have to fill a dbspace entirely. You could test that by creating a small
dbspace (minimum IB is 2MB) and then create a table in that dbspace and
insert rows until the dbspace is full. At that point the ALARMPROGRAM
should be fired off with the event id indicating that a dbspace is full.

Hi,
By default, the alarmprogram.sh does NOT archive full logs. You must edit
the script to change BACKUPLOGS=N and set the BACKUP_CMD to the program of
your choice at the front of the script . Otherwise, the log archiving
won't be done. The default BACKUP_CMD is onbar -b -l, so that fails if
you have not configured onbar and a storage manager. Set BACKUP_CMD to
"ontape -a" if you use ontape.
Further, if you execute ontape -a outside the alarm program won't be
executed since there won't be any full logs to archive.
With those two changes to the script and avoiding ontape -a outside the
script, things work fine.

Thanks, it worked. But on some other machine (on different instance). It seems there's some problem on the instance I was testing previously as same scenario didn't do work on it.
