I did exactly that: Run tbtape -c in a NT telnet session. Then one late
Friday afternoon, the NT machine crashed, which was not discovered until
Monday morning. By that time, the logical logs had long overflown, and
the users were going nuts.
I learned my lesson and installed another terminal. However, that's also
not a perfect solution: What happens if the server machine reboots? Some-
body has to start the backup process by hand from that terminal. Anyone
know an automated procedure for this suitable to be placed in a rc-script?
The GNU "screen" program is an alternative. Start tbtape -c (or ontape -c)
in a "screen" session and detach that session. I used to do that, but after
an OS upgrade, I couldn't get screen to run any more.
