If you want to store the file somewhere else, you can override the default location by setting the INFORMIXCONCSMCFG environment variable to the full pathname of the new location. Format of the CSM Configuration File for Password Encryption: The concsm.cfg file entry has the following format: csmname(lib-paths, "csm-global-option", "csm-connection-options") The csmname variable is the name that you assign to the communications support module. The lib-paths parameter has the following format: "client=lib-path-clientsdk-csm, server=lib-path-server-csm" The lib-path-clientsdk-csm is the full pathname, including the filename, of the shared library that is the CSM of the client, and the client applications use this CSM to communicate with the database server. The CSM is normally installed in $INFORMIXDIR/lib/client/csm. The lib-path-server-csm is the full pathname, including the filename, of the shared library that is the CSM of the database server. The database server uses the CSM to communicate with the clients. On Windows, the database server CSM is usually installed in $INFORMIXDIR/bin. You will have to configure the Client side CSM too. First I will say that without the csm option i can connect to my database just fine. Here are the steps i followed 1) Create a file called concsm.cfg in $INFORMIX$\\etc 2) Put the single line in that file SPWDCSM("c:\\informix\\bin\\libixspw.dll","", "p=1") 3) entered an options key in my registry Informix/SQLHOSTS/(servername)/OPTIONS of "csm=(SPWDCSM)" (where (severname) is the name of my server) 4) restart the informix server However I get the following error when testing the connection from the ODBC data source, IBM Informix ODBC Driver Setup page ------------------------- IBM Informix ODBC Error Message: --------------------------- Test connection was NOT successful.[Informix][Informix ODBC Driver][Informix]CSS: error processing initialization string: C:\\Program Files\\Informix\\Client-SDK\\/etc/concsm.cfg. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- So I think I have some environment variable set badly, but no idea which. First it is pointing to my client SDK installation as opposed to my informix installation, and second its appending "/etc/concsm.cfg" which has the slashes the wrong way around for a windows box! Any idea where I can change these options? I will scour the help files, but its a bit hit or miss cheers --=_alternative 005D041086256F90_= Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII"
=> excerpt from "IDS Administrator's Guide"

The concsm.cfg file resides in the $INFORMIXDIR/etc directory by default.
If you want to store the file somewhere else, you can override the default
location by setting the INFORMIXCONCSMCFG environment variable to the
full pathname of the new location.

Format of the CSM Configuration File for Password Encryption:

The concsm.cfg file entry has the following format:
csmname(lib-paths, "csm-global-option", "csm-connection-options")

The csmname variable is the name that you assign to the communications
support module.
