I'm trying to start informix from the command line in Windows NT by
"oninit -s"
"onmode -m"
but it seems to hang and does not end
any idea?

You 'll probably find that the oninit process is working but the DOS window
will hang as this windows is now attached to the oninit process ( which
doesn't really show alot while its running ).
If you open another dos window ( using the command line utilities ) and
issue "onstat -" you'll probably find that its working fine.

On NT, oninit doesn't put itself into the background to run as a daemon
process. Use 'starts oninit -s' (or use any other parameter) to do that.
Another way is to use 'net start <servicename>' with <servicename> being the
actual NT servive name which identfies the instance you would like to start.
