Hi, I'm using Informix with 4.1x tools, 5.01 Online, and Informix-STAR.
My basic problem is that Informix-STAR only allows one to connect from
one machine to another if one has an account with the same name on both
machines. If you don't have an account on the remote machine, you
get error -951, User is not known on remote host.
My system has about 2000 users. I would like to avoid the system
administration hassles involved in creating accounts for all of them
on every machine in the IX-STAR network. Therefore I would like to
find some way of evading this error. Right now we do it through Unix;
by having the script that calls an Informix tool "su" you to a generic
account name. This is risky and I'd like to eliminate it.
I previously asked about this here (a long time ago, sorry that I
didn't get to work on this more until recently). I got two suggestions;
first, to define synonyms for all remote tables on my local machine,
second, to let users access data through stored procedures. Neither
of these works for me; in both cases I still get error -951. Can
anyone suggest another workaround or tell me what I might be doing
wrong with these two?
