RE: ONLINE SLOW on HP-9000!

I'm running the same type of platform and number of users. I increased the memory to 128mb and it doesn't solve the problem. I'm also in a situation that I have several machines, so I loaded one with HP-UX 9.04 and Informix 5.x. This machine only has 64mb of memory, and it is faster than the 10.2 and 7.x Informix. I called Tech support, but they wanted money to do an analysis for performance. They however suggested running "Update statistics high for table", which I did. This did help. But, the 9.04 machine still 'kicks-butt'. I too have played with the onconfig file, turning on/off KAIO and increasing buffers, etc. But, none of them seem to make a difference, at least one that is noticeable. The 10.2 and 7.2x just seems to be a 'slug', but I'm still working on it hoping I stumble into something that makes a difference. I'm also looking into 10.x patches, in the hopes there may be some relieve. -----Original Message----- From: leekb@post1.com Sent: Monday, March 09, 1998 4:05 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: ONLINE SLOW on HP-9000! On an average HP-UX O/S 10.20 uses about 18-20MB of RAM. Also > if Informix is running on the machine, each user is assigned about 3MB of > RAM. What you should do FIRST is pin-pointing the bottleneck. Is it CPU, memory, or I/O? In most cases, CPU is unlikely. So look out for memory and I/O. Nail down the culprit and act accordingly.
