Michal Hajek <hajek@nspuh.cz> offerred: +When fragmenting by expression, can the following be done : +a).... + fragment by expression + dat1 < "01011990" in dbspace1, + remainder in dbspace2 It would work, technically, but would not, I think, give you the result you were after. What you want instead is dat1 <"01/01/1990" in dbspace1 Otherwise, you will be working with whatever date corresponds to 1011990 days since Dec 31, 1899. +I believe it can be done. When row is updated, is it moved +to appropriate dbspace ? If the value in field dat1 is updated, it will be relocated as appropriate based on the frag expressions. +b)... + fragment by expression + dat1 < (today - 365) in dbspace1, -- (rows "older" then 1 year) + remainder in dbspace2 + + 1) can be such expression used ? No. From my tests, the TODAY keyword/function is not allowed in a fragment expression (e.g. you couldn't even say dat1 < today in dbspace1 - I got a syntax error when I tried such a statement). + 2) will the "old" rows move to dbspace1 without explicit update ? Rows are never moved from one fragment to another unless an update changes the value in the column(s) the table is fragmented by.
