I worked on site last year that after doing a nightly ontape always
restored the tape to the development machine. The business had decide
that in the event of a major failure they were prepared to loose upto a
days work. When there was a motherboard failure on the production
server, the development server was restarted with the production IP
address and the users where up and running in minutes.
Maybe not the most complete DR scenario but it worked within the
business constraints given, and had the advantage of a fully validating
any production backup. It wasn't difficult to set up or administer.
BTW the way the production server was fully mirrored.
