But this makes anything except restoring very, very difficult. To get binary data ("tbunload" format) I have to - find somehow where (pgnum) systables starts - find systable pg(s) with information on chosen table - (first pgnum ?) - find every pg with chosen table -> now I have binary data And every point may mean several tape reading - and our database has 10 GB .. And I'd like to have ASCII data ... I suppose this may be more realistic: - read all tape and record pgnum, pgtype (I hope there it is possible to say this is data page, index page ...), and "next pg" num, this all from every page on tape This would eliminate whole tape reading for every page - if I know first pgnum, I can read in one cycle (of next tape reading) all needed pages. But this is not the subject of the discussion. Just one question (when you are from Informix): do you have (I mean Informix) such tool ?
