reliability of the 7.1 engine

I'm looking for people's experiences using the 7.10 engine. My
company is implementing a bond trading system that will run on DEC Alpha
machines. When we go live we will have several hundred users around the
country attaching to one replicated server.
In the course of development we've had a lot of things happen that
make us question the ability of the database to handle our requirements.
One of the problems we see is indices becoming corrupt. As a work around we
rebuild them nightly. Another problem is the stored procedures becoming
corrupted. We've had our logical logs corrupted by the onlog utility. Our
Informix instance also manages to hang our primary development machine a
couple times a day, but the tech support people don't see anything amiss.
The tricky part in our problems is that the online log always says the
database is running smoothly. We only hear about some of the problems when
a user remembers that he has seen an error message and calls me, the DBA.
Just to keep our database alive we end up running update statistics
and oncheck on the whole system each night.
Has anyone had similar problems?
Is anyone else using 7.1 on a DEC machine?
Thanks,
Peggy Johnson
