We are upgrading from IDS 7.31.FD1 on HPUX10 to IDS 9.40.FC6 on HPUX11i. We have 10GO total system memory available. Not knowing all the details of our system, could someone give a suggestion for onconfig settings for us to maximize the amount of memory available to us at this time?

Succinctly, No. We don't have enough information. On HP-UX, you with PA-RISC (you don't tell us the platform fully), you need to minimize the number of shared memory segments you use - the upper limit before you run into (severe) performance problems depends on the chips, as I understand it; you are at risk if you have more than 3 shared memory segments, IIRC. You need to ensure you have enough memory allocated to 'everything else' on the system - you'll need to judge what that means. Historically, I used 1/4 RAM for IDS when there was significant other workload on the system, but that dates back to the days when main memory was measured in MB and not GB. If this is the main task for the machine and there is no client activity on the machine, you might get away with allocating two 4GB segments to IDS and leave the rest for 'the system', but that might be over-reaching too. You'll need to decide on the split between buffers and locks (and everything else - which is minuscule by comparison). Generally, more buffers is better. If you were using IDS 10.x, you could have single shared memory segments bigger than 4GB. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Information Management Division 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
