I have no problem with syntax of the type: IF <integer var> then ... and having the programmer assume that 0 is false and anything else is true, since its a basic and integral part of C programming, and its an accepted standard (by most) elsewhere. However, I have run into 4GL code that went: IF <character variable> then ... and the programmer (reasonably?) assumed that a null string would be false and otherwise true. But Informix (4.something) also interpreted any string which started with a numeric character as false (that was a fun one to track down).
