We are going to be upgrading the OS on our 500gig Informix system sometime this calendar year from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.2. We will be using IDS 7.31-UD7 in developement and IDS 7.31-FD7 in production. Could someone who has made this OS upgrade let me know what issues and risks they encountered. Could someone let me know how similar the user spaces are between the two OSes. We have numerous apps that issue OS commands, capture and pares the results. I'm curous what kind of an effort its going to require to modify these parsing routines for the new OS. Thank you for your time.

There is a 7.31.FD6 for AIX 5.1, but no 7.31.FD7 for AIX 7.31.FD7. I think you would have to start looking at 9.40.FC? TBP

We recently migrated a client from an IBM RS/6000 F50 running AIX 4.3.0 to
an IBM RS/6000 B80 running AIX 5.2. IDS was also upgraded from 7.30.UC6 (I
think) to 7.31.UD6.
Everything is running smoothly and much faster (more than twice as fast as
before).
One problem we ran into and later overcame was that the dbimport's on the
new box would bomb because of a FLOAT field in a certain table in the
application. I do not know why and I can only guess that it was related to
a bug with Informix Dynamic Server (specifically with dbexport/dbimport
perhaps). Our workaround was to setup the same chunk structure on the new
box as the old and use a level zero archive to migrate the data.

Hi,
Last november we migrated from F50 with AIX 4.3.3 to P630 AIX 5.2 and
in both we used IDS 7.31.UD6X5 (a special Patch for us like IDS
7.31.UD8).
Both servers are 32 bits, I not sure, but if you have the first letter
"U" after 7.31. in the version of IDS, it means the patch is built to
servers running in 32 bits. If the letter is "F" means 64 bits. If the
letter is "H" means 32 bits for HP-UX.
Then, I ask you chec if B80 is 64 bits...
Other thing to see, is the envinronment variables are set as the same
in both servers (F50 and B80), pay special attention to DBMONEY is
"." dot or "," comma.
IF the dbimport bomb, try to isolate that table - put 0 (zero) rows in
the mention of table in <database>.sql file before run dbimport,
rename the file to maintain the unload data and create a new file with
"touch" command in unix with the same name mentioned in the .sql file
(as usual 4 or 5 letters for table and 4 or 5 numbers as tabid .unl -
the file name. After that, run dbimport and you can load data into
table using dbaccess -> load from file.unl insert into table or using
dbload tool (if the nunber of rows are greather than the max locks in
onconfig file. I recomend you create table (before load data) withou
indexes , then load data and after that create indexes, and run update
statistics).
I hope its helps you.
Sorry about my poor english ... Best regards.
