If you are searching for Grenier, and you want it case-insensitive, try: ...WHERE name matches "[Gg][Rr][Ee][Nn][Ii][Ee][Rr]" -----Original Message----- From: Tom Grenier [mailto:tom@sqlman.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 1999 10:46 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Case Insesitive Search. Which engine? With >= 7.30 there are built-in functions upper and lower. Prior to 7.30 you have to write a stored procedure -- and it is a real dog. There is probably one posted on the IIUG site, and I have a copy of one that was posted here around a year ago. If you want it I can email. Absolutely correct -- I was thinking in a general case -- not a single
dbaccess (isql/whatever) sql statement. In fact, I've written a web-based
front end in javascript that will do this ( www.sqlman.com -- go to the QBE
example and tick off the ignore case box).
However, I believe another problem with this is the same as Art's reply to
the original thread above -- this method will also bypass using an index.
