Re: Informix compared to other RDBMS
Posted in 1999
In a discussion comparing Informix with other RDBMS, Obnoxio The Clown said Pro*C is the easiest Oracle tool, but Oracle is hard and counter-intuitive and needs more manpower and hardware than Informix. Doug Agnew said Oracle and IBM lead because of marketing and name recognition. Duncan Kinder, who bought Informix for Linux, noted their larger market share. No technical resolution.

But my biggest problem with Oracle is that it's damn difficult and counter-intuitive to work with. You need a lot more manpower to run Oracle than Informix. And horsepower, too! :-) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I purchased the $99 dollar Informix for Linux because my survey of the Informix books on Amazon.com suggested that a reasonably intelligent fellow could make a go of it with Informix while I essentially would have to abandon everything else if I went with Oracle. However, folks, let's face it. Oracle and IBM have a bigger market share. There must be a reason. -- Regards, Duncan C.
