ESC sequence & arrow keys

Apparently, ESC sequence for arrow > key is separated from rest of the keycode. Any solutions to preventing > this from occuring? Also happens in forms. This is a common problem since Informix products use the ESC sequence to send data to the database and the arrow keys produce the ESC sequence plus a character. We reported this to Informix and Informix give us a patch object fix that works 98% of the time. The patch was to 4GL only for version 2.10.03F. You may be able to obtain this from them or it may be in your port of 4GL Along with installing the patch, we had to set an environment variable, DBESCWT for all users of Informix in one of the following ways: C shell: setenv DBESCWT 2 Bourne shell: DBESCWT=2;export DBESCWT You might want to try setting this then using your application to see if there is any affect. The patch was called the 'DB escape wait' patch if you want to try and get it from Informix. Version 4.0 of all tools contains this patch although the environment variable is not documented. Only the companies that complained about this particular problem were given the patch and documentation to the .03 products or the environment variable for the 4.0 products. I also routinely suggest that developers set the accept key to something other than the ESC key. You can use either a function key or an Alt-X key instead of the ESC key. If you can train all your users to use something besides the ESC key, you should eliminate the confusion with arrow keys. Cris Schramm cris.schramm@hub.dsg.ti.com Texas Instruments, Inc.
