Any nice 3rd party tools to audit other than onaud
Posted in 2011
Topics: Security, Permissions & Auditing
Good afternoon,
I'm in a situation where I need to be proactive with auditing of schema
changes in my ERP app that utilizes Informix. We have lots of changes with
table schema all the time and I was wondering if anyone is using something
other than onaudit to track changes to table schema?
Thanks for any recommendations or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Jonathan B.

AGS's Server Studio can snapshot your schemas and can compare schema to
schema, stored schema to live database, database to database, server to
server and report differences or generate sync scripts. If you also use
AGS's Sentinel you can schedule periodic snapshots of the database schemas
to run hourly/daily/etc. and Sentinel will keep all of the snapshots in its
repository.

IBM Guardium isn't strictly 3rd party, and may be overkill for just ddl
auditing, but it fit the bill capturing everything you listed below, and it
works great with Informix, with a roadmap to provide even more Informix
support.

I currently use a script to dump the DB schema every couple of days,
then I can go back to diff them for possible changes. This is very
crude, but cheap.
Will AGS's Server Studio perform much better job at this and can it
track who/userid did perform the change(s)?
Thanks,

Yes, better, no it cannot tell who made the changes.
