Re: Informix & NIS

Informix 5.x works fine under the NIS. Just make sure that the names of other machines that are involved in inet or istar transactions also appears in /etc/hosts.equiv file. If you are not planning to touch your hosts.equiv file you should be o.k.. All the function calls such as gethostbyname() that are used in tcp/ip networking are NIS enabled. This means that the gethostbyname() function will first contact your NIS server to get the information about host names etc. <<<Saeed>>> In <504qdu$58k@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu> rajivp@qsun.ho.att.com writes: > >We are planning to implement NIS on Sparc 20 , Solaris 2.4 for the >hosts. > >We intend to move all the entries from /etc/hosts to /some_other_place/hosts >except that machine's. > >Would this configuration affect Informix in an distributive env. > >Informix Products : >---------------- >SERVER >====== >Informix On-Line 5.04.UC2 >I-STAR 5.04.UC2 > >CLIENT >====== >I-NET 5.04.UC2 >I-4GL/RT 4.13.UD1 > > >Has anyone tried this kind of settings. > >All help appreciated. > > >-- >Rajiv Jhaveri >DBA > >================================================================= >Voice : (908) 949 7987 Pager : 544 7872 or > 1-800 225 0256 PIN 310902 >Fax : (908) 949 1726 E-mail: rajivp@qsun.ho.att.com >================================================================= > >
