We're especially interested in causes : and/or solutions. Bobby, I had a similar problem on a UnixWare system. It turned out to be the underlying slices in the raw partition. Someone had transposed two digits in the starting block for one of the partitions, and two of the raw partitions overlapped. Unless you're using cooked Unix files, I believe prtvtoc will not even see the data. You need to get down to the underlying disk partitions. This one had Informix totally stumped....all they did was check to see that the major & minor device numbers didn't overlap (linking two chunks to the same raw device). I still haven't found the command to fix the problem....I just dropped the overlapping chunk after doing a restore and moving data around to avoid hitting the overlapping area.
