Newsgroups: comp.databases.informix Subject: 4GL 4.1 question/help Summary: Followup-To: Distribution: usa Organization: Sequent Computer Systems Inc. Keywords: I think I am looking for a function which is the opposite of get_fldbuf. We are using Informix 4GL 4.1 on the 5.0 engine. We are trying to take advantage of the new 4GL features. This question involves the construct statement. Suppose this is the field on your form: Input : [ ] Suppose F4 in the construct statement fills the field with the word 'testing' if the field is empty or cancatonates the field '|testing' if the field isn't empty. F4 presssed the first time results in : Input : [testing ] F4 pressed again results in: Input : [testing|te] When F4 is pressed the second time, I would like 4GL to open a work space in the comment line, giving the same results as if I had typed in 'testing|testing' (which causes a work space to open). When we embarked on our project it was 'assumed' that the display statement would provide the additional functionality needed. (silly me!). ---------------- Attached is the construct statment ------ construct where_clause on rpt from test_rec.* on key (F4) if infield(fc_field1) then call get_fldbuf(fc_field1) returning ex_fld1 if (ex_fld1 is NULL) then let ex_fld1 = "testing" else let ex_fld1 = ex_fld1 clipped,"|","testing" end if display ex_fld1 to test_rec.fc_field1 end if end construct --------------------------------------------------------------- Any help will be greatly appreciated......
