A user asked whether Informix-SE 5.0 is Y2K-ready and where to get a patch. The reply was that SE engines are essentially compliant except for how they convert 2-digit-year strings into date/datetime columns: if front-end applications pass 4-digit years there's no problem, otherwise an upgrade is needed. One poster suggested going to SE 7.30 (latest), while others noted a 5.1x or 7.24 release may already be compliant and advised checking Informix's official Y2K compatibility web page or a sales rep rather than relying on newsgroup advice. No single definitive version answer was settled on.

Hi,
Anybody knows if Informix-SE 5.0 Y2K ready? If not, where can I download the
patch program. Where can I get the information from?
Thanks for help.

You'll have to upgrade to the latest versions SE 7.30 for full Y2K
compatibility. All SE engines are essentially compliant with the
exception of how they handle the insertion of date and datetime column
values converted from a string containing a 2-digit year. If your
front-end applications use 4-digit years you have no problems. If not
then you will have to upgrade. Contact Informix.

Art --
Why do you say SE 7.30? I have been told that my 7.24.UC8 (which Informix just
shipped me after another bug report) is just fine.
Is there something specific I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

Instead of asking Art about the Y2K readiness of Informix Products why don't you
call your sales rep, or check the Informix web page concerning Y2K
http://www.informix.com/informix/products/year2000/table1.htm , these two options
will provide you with a more complete answer thant Art (sorry Art).
You may have been fully compliant by upgrading to SE 5.1x depending on your
applications and use of the engine. Call you rep and have them provide you with
all the appropriate information.

Greg is of course correct. Likely there is an SE 5.1x that is Y2K
compliant. I just like to have the latest and greatest myself. I know
others are always worried about being on the "bleeding edge" but except
for the IDS 7.1x fiasco (and a problem OL 5.05 had talking to OL 5.04) I
have always done well staying with one of the two latest releases.
