RE: Ontape to Disk - HP_UX
Posted in 1997
I'm the original author of the question regarding HP_UX, and the ontape
utility to disk question. I've received several responses (thank you to all)
and would like to reply with further information:
Here are the file/file system limitations on HP_UX (regardless of
hardware):
HP Max. File Max. File system
10.01 2 GB 4 GB
10.10 2 GB 128 GB
10.20 128 GB 128 GB
We're an SAP R/3 shop - which means SAP controls the release levels
for Informix and HP_UX. The release of SAP we will be implementing will
NOT include the new Onbar utility (which interfaces with HP's
Omniback). Also, we need to implement with HP_UX 10.01 (which has a
2 GB limit on files - 10.20 allows a 128 GB file). I guess we need to write
a script that will write to a 2 GB file, copy it to another area, write 2 more
GB from ontape, etc. Or, somehow change the value of TAPEDEV during
the ontape archive. We have taken the onarchive class and chose not to
implement it (live with ontape until onbar's available). We want to use
HP's Omniback to backup the disk archive to tape, so that we can
manage all of our tapes out of one DLT library. I come from the "big blue"
MVS/ESA 3090 world, so unix scripting is new to me. Any ideas on
"faking out" ontape to write to "multiple" 2 GB files, or change TAPEDEV
during the archive would be greatly appreciated.
