Not using the 100% logical log page size alloacted to informix
Posted in 2006
Poster on IFX 9.3 saw onstat -l showing most logical logs only partly filled (20-60% used) and asked why the full log space wasn't used. Replies explained that logs filling only partially is normally caused by something forcing log switches: a cron job, script or ALARMPROGRAM issuing onmode -l, or onbar backups (onbar -b forces a log switch at the end of each dbspace, especially with unlimited backup threads/BAR_MAX_BACKUP 0). The poster confirmed ALARMPROGRAM runs onbar -b -l, but no definitive fix or conclusion is recorded.

buried somewhere in your machine (pay particular attention to cron jobs, or
maybe something fired by ALARMPROGRAM) there's something that does onmode -l.
hunt it down, see why the decision was made to have something do onmode -l's,
and if the case needs be, get it out of the way

Or did he mean that the logical log dbspace is not full maybe?
it seems the alarmprogram executes the onbar commands
onbar -b -l
TIA
No, i meant the logical log page file that i have appended in my query.
How often do your logs fill? Do any of your databases in the instance use logging? How often do you run a DB backup? Could be an onbar -b, which at the end of each dbspace forces a logical
log switch, and you have BAR_MAX_BACKUP set to 0 (i.e. unlimited backup
threads).
