Pretty simple solution, but it should work. Anytime I do something like this I stash off a copy of the onconfig file.....I know its superstitious behavior, but I basically distrust all install scripts, even the usually-good Informix ones. There's another way to do this somewhat easily, as I discovered after mistakenly restoring executables as root and not keeping ownership the same. In the $INFORMIXDIR/etc directory are files called *files where the * is "online" or "esql", etc. These files contain a list of all files, owners, groups, and permissions, including the suid bits. It's trivial to write a script to either verify the files or change the owners/permissions to the correct one.
