INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server Available on IBM AIX Version 4 Operating System Uniforum, Dallas, Tex. (March 14, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:IFMX), the leader in parallel processing database technology, today announced availability of INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server(TM) 7.1 for the latest version of IBM's RISC System/6000(R) (RS/6000(R)) PowerPC servers, based on the PowerPC 601 microprocessor, and running on AIX(R) Version 4, IBM's industry leading UNIX(R) operating system. OnLine Dynamic Server 7.1 has been available on IBM's RS/6000 running AIX Version 3.2.5 since Q4 1994 and was available for AIX Version 4 last month. AIX Version 4 offers customers a state-of-the-art, scalable UNIX platform that supports IBM's PowerPC, POWER2 and POWER-based systems including RS/6000 servers and client workstations. Running on AIX Version 4, OnLine Dynamic Server will further exploit the power of IBM's SMP hardware by performing nearly all major database activities in parallel -- resulting in dramatic increases in database performance and manageability. OnLine Dynamic Server's parallel processing technology is specifically designed to address the needs of today's organizations to manage larger, more complex business-critical databases. It delivers fast, scalable database performance that can be easily adjusted to accommodate larger databases, more concurrent users, and the integration of new technology. Informix Provides Both SMP and Loosely-Coupled Technology Informix is focusing its parallel processing database technology on both the SMP and loosely-coupled market. Informix provides OnLine Dynamic Server 7.1 for SMP platforms and has won several large accounts for three reasons: it provides an administrative infrastructure that allows easy migration from a uniprocessor system environment; it offers extremely cost-effective mainframe-caliber performance; and it provides a familiar programming environment so users can write applications as if they were writing for a uniprocessor system. Informix has also been focusing on the loosely-coupled market and is well underway in developing its DSA implementation for clusters and massively parallel processing (MPP) systems. OnLine Dynamic Server 8.0 will be available later this year. Pricing INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server 7.1 is priced at $1,500 per user for development and $1,125 per user for runtime, with a minimum purchase of a 5-user license.
