Raw device install for Online

Our new server came with a 9 gb raw device but the suppliers don't seem to have configured it as a raw device despite our request. How do I do this under SCO Unix 5.0.4? The Informix OnLine Admin Guide 7.2 vol 1, p 15-5 says: "To allocate raw disk space, consult your Unix system documentation for instructions on how to create and install a raw device." But I cannot find anything in the indices or contents of the SCO Unix manuals about this. I should be grateful if anyone can help.
