4GL For Windows
Posted in 1993
Hello Has anybody had any experience with 4GL for Windows yet ? I did have a copy of 4GL/GX for Windows at pre beta level for a while but that went back at the end of the evaluation period. My local distributor has promised a Beta copy three times but with no results. The questions I really would like an answer to are. 1. Will SE run under Windows for Workgroups, now or at anytime ? 2. Will SE work with Novell Version 2 or 3 or Novell lite ? 3. Will I have to have a dedicated server ? 4. If Informix are to use Novell will they use the same user breaks as novell saving us from having to buy a 16 user SE licence to run with a 5 user Novell licence. I wrote to Informix UK regarding this in June, I have yet to have a reply. The reason for all of this. We have a package for package for Horticulture written in 4GL running under SCO which is selling well. We also have a competitor selling an inferior DOS based package (mainly single user) to smaller clients. What we wish to do is to produce a cut down version to sell under Windows with upto 3 or 4 users in competition. But with statements such as "SE will need Novell V3" etc the sums just don't add up you may as well put in SCO. Are we the only people trying to product a good looking cut down version of a larger product before we attempt to port the entire product to windows ? Mike Chatwood. PS. Were also so looking for agents outside for the UK. any body interested ? MKM Software Systems Professional Software for Nurserymen Thanks in advance. If Informix had people who could answer questions when asked or If people returned calls i wouldn't need to ask. Tel 0532 319248 Fax 0532 319247 Email mike.chatwood@almac.co.uk
