Switching Ansi mode off ??

Greetings and a Happy New Year one and all, I am about to convert some ANSI databases so that that decimal types will be changed ( from (5,0) to (5,2) for instance ). My problem is that many of the tables are relatively large and the cost in logging terms seems to be prohibitive. I would like to be able to switch logging off for the ALTER TABLE commands but don`t know how to do it or if it`s possible, TBUNLOAD/TBLOAD is not a viable solution and UNLOAD/LOAD for each table is also a costly option.
